Pico Island is among the five best secret islands in the world, classification awarded recently by BBC.
The best secret islands in the world classified by BBC are always five, and the classification criterion is the maintenance of the natural state of these territories. In addition to the Pico Island, this year BBC lists also the following islands: Scrub (British Virgin Islands), Con Dao (Vietnam), Sandon (Sweden) and Gili Trawangan (Indonesia).

When Columbus made his expedition, Pico was a last outpost - and it remains virtually unknown. It’s a shame, what with wines unlike anywhere else, and footpaths that weave through beautifully eerie landscapes of lava.
